AMMAN — The Jordanian government has condemned the continuing publishing of the cartoons of the Noble Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, under the pretext of freedom of expression, confirming its support for the statement of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which expresses the position of the Islamic nation in this regard. Spokesman for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dhaifallah Al-Fayez affirmed Jordan"s condemnation of publishing such cartoons and its deep dissatisfaction with these practices, which represent insult to the feelings of nearly 2 billion Muslims, considering it as a clear targeting of religious symbols, beliefs and sanctities, and a flagrant violation of the principles of respect for others and their beliefs. Earlier, the Secretariat General of OIC said it is closely following the continuation of publishing of cartoons insulting to the Messenger Muhammad (PBUH), expressing astonishment at the official political rhetoric uttered by some French official, in particular, that harms Islamic-French relations and fuels hatred feelings, in order to secure partisan political gains. OIC reiterated that it will keep denouncing such mockery of the Messengers whether be relevant to Islam, Christianity or/and Judaism, adding that it once again condemns committing any terrorist act, in the name of Islam, too. In Kuwait, the Foreign Ministry on Friday said that Kuwait is following with deep dismay the continued circulation of caricatures lampooning Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In a press statement, the ministry announced its backing to the statement of the OIC which expressed the Muslim world’s rejection of these offenses and practices. The ministry warned about the danger of official political discourses supporting such assaults on religions or prophets. Such acts instigate hatred, enmity, violence and undermine the international efforts to promote the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, the ministry argued. It cautioned against the continued backing of such insults and any discriminatory policies, which associate Islam with terrorism. These acts do not reflect the reality, ignore the tolerant Islamic teachings, which condemn terrorism and gravely offend Muslims worldwide. — SPA/KUNA
