JEDDAH — Muslim World League (MWL) has condemned the attack that occurred on Wednesday at a cemetery in Jeddah when French and other foreign officials were attending a war memorial ceremony. The MWL, an umbrella organization that represents the interests of the world"s 1.8 billion Muslims from its headquarters in the Holy City of Makkah, emphasized that there can be no justification for such an attack. The MWL said that if anyone attempts to use the noble precepts of Islam to explain such violence, they are making a categorical mistake. Islam abhors violence and the targeting of innocent people. Islam is a religion that promotes partnerships among people of all faiths, backgrounds, beliefs, races, and ethnicities. The MWL reiterates its call for dialogue and bridge-building to resolve differences or address grievances. It also recalls its unwavering opposition to political Islam, which uses religion as a pretext to advance partisan and extremist ideas and objectives. At a time of so much violence, particularly in or near houses of worship that should be sanctuaries of peace, the MWL urges all nations, organizations, and individuals with influence to recommit to the cooperative spirit of dialogue and humanity"s common ideals of peace, coexistence, inclusivity, and harmony. The MWL offers its condolences to anyone injured in the violence in Jeddah. — SG
