WASHINGTON — US secretary of state Mike Pompeo said that the Iranian terrorist regime manages to continue, in a tragic way till today, to ignore international laws and commitments towards the rights of the Iranian people. In a statement to mark the anniversary of public protests which took place in Iran last year where 1,500 protesters were killed, Pompeo said that thousands of demonstrators were imprisoned and subject to various types of torture. In a tweet, Pompeo said: “One year ago, brave Iranians took to the streets to exercise their freedom of expression. “The regime responded by manifesting its brutal ideology: indiscriminate violence and terror, killing as many as 1,500 Iranians, including at least 23 children. We mourn these victims.” He called on the world community to understand that such regime did not give chance for the emergence of prudent and wise leaders. He urged the world community to join the US call to release all political detainees and prisoners in Iran. — SPA
