RIYADH — Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO) has completed procedures for importing 730,000 tons of barley, representing the seventh and last tender for 2020, from the European Union, Australia, the Black Sea, North and South America; except Canada. Governor of SAGO Eng. Ahmad Abdulaziz Al-Fares stated that the amount specified in the tender is distributed to 12 ships; eight ships with the amount of 480,000 tons for the Kingdom’s ports on the Red Sea and four ships with the amount of 250,000 tons for the Kingdom’s ports on the Arabian Gulf, to be supplied during the period of January-February 2021. The governor confirmed that this tender comes within the organization’s plan to meet the local demand for feed barley and maintain its strategic reserve, enabling the private sector to import barley and increase its contribution to the Saudi economy in accordance with the Saudi Vision 2030. Eng. Al-Fares also said that the organization has contracted to import about 5.8 million tons during 2020, adding that SAGO will cooperate and coordinate with the private sector to facilitate barley’s importation via a package of e-services that will be launched soon. — SPA
