LONDON — More than 54.94 million (54,944,069) people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus globally and 1,326,465 have died, according to a global tally. In total 38,221,839 people have recovered. The US has recorded more than 11 million cases and is approaching 250,000 deaths from coronavirus, the highest figures in the world. Daily cases have been at record levels since early November as the number of infections continue to rise across the country. Coronavirus is continuing its spread across the world with more than 50 million confirmed cases in 191 countries and about 1.3 million deaths. The virus is surging in many regions and countries that had apparent success in suppressing initial outbreaks are also seeing infections rise again. Europe and North America are currently seeing the steepest rise in new cases. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned the global death toll could hit two million before an effective vaccine is widely in use. Addressing the World Health Assembly last week, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: "We might be tired of Covid-19. But it is not tired of us." Russia reported a record high of 22,778 new coronavirus infections on Monday, including 6,360 in the capital Moscow, bringing the national tally to 1,948,603. Authorities also reported 303 coronavirus-related deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the official death toll to 33,489. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 10,824 to 801,327 and the reported death toll rose by 62 to 12,547, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Monday. France reported Monday 27,228 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases to 198,1827 cases. The French Ministry of Health said in a statement today that the number of deaths reached 302, bringing the total number of deaths to 44,548. Cases and hospital admissions are now rising fast again in many European countries. Spain, France, Italy and the UK have all recorded more than one million cases, and several others are seeing their highest number of new infections since the start of the pandemic. India has continued the unbroken trend of the daily new recoveries outpacing the daily new additions for the 44th day. In all 43,851 COVID19 patients recovered in the last 24 hours against just 30,548 newly detected cases. Daily new cases numbering 30,548 is a historic low that assumes significance given many countries in Europe and America are experiencing a continuous steep rise in daily new cases. The New Delhi government’s efforts to continue to maintain high levels of comprehensive testing have resulted in bringing down the net positivity to sustained low levels. The Philippines" Health Ministry on Monday recorded 1,738 new coronavirus infections and seven additional deaths, the lowest daily increase in casualties in nearly three months. In a bulletin, the ministry said total confirmed cases had increased to 409,574, while deaths had reached 7,839. Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019. In Tehran, Iran has reported 13,053 daily confirmed coronavirus cases and 486 deaths in the past 24 hours heath authorities said on Monday.
