HADRAMOUT: The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) on Sunday launched a project to support the fisheries sector of the Hadramout governorate. As part of the program, 100 modern fishing boats were distributed among local fishermen. It was the fourth batch of upgraded fishing boats distributed by SDRPY in different Yemeni governorates. Most of these fishermen living along Yemen’s coastline were hit by the recent cyclones. Hadramout Gov. Maj. Gen. Faraj Al-Bahsani attended the ceremony. He highlighted the importance of the fishing sector for the governorate’s economy. He vowed to support the program and take all measures to create an environment conducive to investment in the fisheries sector, as it plays a vital role in food safety in Yemen. SDRPY will also launch a modern school in Mukalla district on Monday. SDRPY focuses on seven key sectors: Agriculture and fisheries, health, water, education, energy, transportation, and government and public sector infrastructure. It is involved in projects to develop and maintain key government infrastructure, laying the cornerstones for both self-sufficiency and security in Yemen. It has launched more than 188 projects across the war-torn country in different sectors. The SDRPY was established through a royal decree to assist the Yemeni people reconstruct their country.
