Guterres welcomes Al-Ula Communique of GCC's summit

NEW YORK — United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed Al-Ula"s Communique on "solidarity and stability" issued by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit held in Saudi Arabia Tuesday. In a press statement yesterday, United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric affirmed that UN Secretary-General welcomes the announcement of the opening of airspace, land, and sea borders between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt and the State of Qatar. UN Secretary-General expressed his confidence that all concerned countries will continue to work in a positive spirit to strengthen relations between them. US too welcomes restoration of Gulf and Arab cooperation The United States of America too welcomed the restoration of cooperation on military, economic, health, cultural and anti-corruption initiatives among the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). This came in a statement issued by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. We are encouraged by the progress achieved with Al-Ula"s declaration at the summit of GCC states, which represents a positive step towards restoring Gulf and Arab unity, Pompeo said. He stressed that a truly united Gulf will bring more prosperity through the free flow of goods and services and more security to GCC"s people. Pompeo has welcomed the pledge of restoring cooperation in military, economic, health and cultural initiatives, confirming that the restoration of full diplomatic relations will unity all parties in the region against common threats. Pompeo also expressed thanks to the State of Kuwait for its efforts in mediation and support to resolve the Gulf conflict. Qatar welcomes GCC’s Al-Ula Communique In Doha, Qatar welcomed "Al-Ula Communique" which was announced on the sidelines of the meeting of 41st session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)"s Supreme Council, which was held Tuesday in AlUla Governorate. In a statement, the State of Qatar affirmed that this meeting comes at this decisive moment as an extension of the joint work process in its Gulf, Arab and Islamic framework, and in favor of the supreme interest in a way that strengthens the bonds of friendliness and brotherhood between peoples, anchoring the principles of good neighborliness and mutual respect. — SPA
