Saudi Arabia to continue distance learning for 10 weeks

RIYADH — Students of all levels of school and university education in Saudi Arabia will continue to pursue studies through remote learning for the second semester of the academic year, the Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday. In a press statement, the ministry stated that a royal decree has been issued to continue distance education until the end of the 10th week of the second semester in all levels of public, university, and technical education in line with the set previous mechanism. The ministry said that theoretical courses for universities and Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) institutes will be held remotely while university science practical and TVTC training courses will be held physically. “The distance learning classes for the intermediate and secondary phases of school education will start from 9 a.m. while the remote classes for the elementary level will start from 3 p.m. This will be in accordance with the powers entrusted to the concerned authorities and councils while taking all precautionary measures and health protocols.” The ministry reiterated its confidence in teachers, faculty members, and trainers in their continued management of distance education and training in an effective manner. It lauded the role of family and parents in continuing to pursue the educational journey with their children. The ministry has carried out updating of its Madrasati platform in the wake of the start of the second semester. It is noteworthy that the ministry held the final examinations for the first semester of the current academic year remotely through the Madrasati and other platforms for public and private schools. Educational institutions will open on Sunday after a short vacation in the mid academic year.
