Egypt, Qatar agree to resume diplomatic relations

CAIRO — Egypt and Qatar have decided to resume diplomatic relations, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday. "Egypt and Qatar have exchanged two official notes, according to which the two countries agreed to resume diplomatic relations," the statement read. According to the statement, the decision was reached based on the mutual duties of the “AlUla Declaration” that was inked at the 41st Gulf Cooperation Council summit in Saudi Arabia. The AlUla agreement ended a boycott on Qatar by the Arab quartet, which includes, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. “Egypt reopened its airspace to Qatari flights on Jan. 12 and flights between the two countries were resumed. Other quartet countries have also resumed flights to and from Qatar. — Agencies
