Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman has witnessed the signing ceremony of technical, legal and financial studies contracts for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) initiative in Madinah on Thursday. The Region Development Authority oversees the initiative, which is funded by the Doyof Al-Rahman Program (DARP), one of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 programs, to form a new quality addition to public transport. The BRT initiative reflects the great attention accorded by the government of King Salman to Madinah and its visitors. This initiative represents the most appropriate option to strengthen the public transport service system in accordance with the geographical nature of Madinah. The contracts signed with the companies are for advisory services in the BRT network initiative, in addition to contributing to the work on the implementation stages of the project. The project embodies the cooperation between the various government agencies in partnership with the private sector to facilitate the arrival of visitors to the Prophet’s Mosque, who are expected to reach 27 million in number, according to the goals of the Kingdom’s vision. It seeks to enhance the performance of the public transport network within Madinah, connect the neighborhoods and facilitate the arrival of passengers through Madinah airport to the Prophet’s Mosque and through the Al-Haramain Express Train and the central area. Rami Kinsara, CEO of DARP, expressed his sincere thanks to Prince Faisal for the great support that resulted in the development of the BRT project to serve as a model for integration between the emirate of the region, the Development Authority and DARP. The contracts were signed by Fahd Al-Buliheshi, CEO of the Madinah Region Development Authority; Khaled Al-Sagga, CEO of Deloitte Touche Middle East Limited for executing the financial studies; Hisham Al-Rasasi, director general of HMR Middle East for executing the technical studies; and Abdullah Al-Zamil, representative of Abdulrahman Fahad Al-Khaili and his partners for executing the legal studies.
