RAMALLAH — The Palestinian Authority (PA) is expected to receive 10,000 doses of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine on Thursday, enough to cover 5,000 people, Palestinian Health Minister Mai Alkaila has confirmed. In a statement carried by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the health minister said that the Palestinian government has also purchased two million doses of vaccines that are expected to arrive in Palestine between Feb.14 and Feb. 20 and will be sufficient to vaccinate one million people. Donations from friendly countries, institutions supporting the Palestinian people, and Palestinian communities abroad are also expected here in the near future, she said. Alkaila said the priority in the vaccination will be for medical staff, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases, and that the vaccination will take place in about 45 centers throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The authority launched a vaccination campaign on Tuesday after a small delivery of doses from Israel.
