Attorney General’s directive to intensify monitoring of coronavirus protocols in prisons

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Attorney General Saud Al-Muajab issued a directive to the monitoring departments of the Public Prosecution at prisons, detention centers and social care homes in various regions of the Kingdom to intensify their monitoring and inspections so as to ensure that the concerned authorities apply the highest standards of precautionary measures and preventive protocols to stem the spread of coronavirus. He urged the concerned authorities to ensure that prisoners and detainees are periodically subject to medical checkups to reassure their health and safety. The Attorney General also directed the departments to submit detailed reports on the measures and precautionary measures taken in this regard on a regular basis. An official source at the Public Prosecution stated that the directive is in line with the efforts made to contain the outbreak of coronavirus, and to reduce the impact of the second wave of the virus to a minimum. The Attorney General stressed the importance of exerting efforts, in coordination and cooperation with the health authorities, to enhance health awareness in the appropriate ways to properly deal with the repercussions of the virus and follow the necessary strategies to prevent it.
