Authorities shut 172 facilities in Jeddah

JEDDAH: Jeddah authorities carried out 7,599 coronavirus inspection tours over the past two days and closed 172 commercial facilities for violating health and safety measures, the Saudi Press Agency reported.  The municipality said that field teams carried out inspections across 19 sub-municipalities and the municipalities of 15 provinces in the region and detected 206 violations. It said it would continue its efforts to ensure that businesses and people were sticking to precautionary measures to limit the spread of the virus. Baha municipality carried out 5,108 inspection tours across restaurants, cafes, malls, stores, and hair salons. It closed down 41 businesses and issued 121 fines for violations. Makkah municipality carried out 70 inspection tours across commercial premises to limit the spread of coronavirus and ensure public safety. The director general of municipal affairs, Abdullah Al-Zaidi, said that 10 violation orders were issued. Authorities urged the public to do its part in maintaining public health by reporting any COVID-19 breaches to the 940 call center number.
