RIYADH: Saudi Arabia recorded six new coronavirus related deaths on Tuesday, raising the total number of fatalities to 6,573. The Ministry of Health confirmed 345 new confirmed cases reported in the Kingdom in the previous 24 hours, meaning 382,752 people have now contracted the disease.  Of the total number of cases, 3,253 remain active and 567 in critical condition. According to the ministry, the highest number of cases were recorded in the capital Riyadh with 142, followed by the Eastern Province with 80, Makkah with 47, the Northern Borders Province recorded 14 and Qassim confirmed 13 cases. The Saudi Epidemiology Society called on the public to take the initiative to get the vaccine, saying that all approved vaccines are safe and effective to prevent infection and severe complications of the virus, which is a “very important step to reach community immunity and control the pandemic.” The peer-reviewed studies published worldwide indicate high efficacy for all types of vaccines currently available in the Kingdom,” the society said in a statement. It praised the efforts of Saudi authorities in combatting the virus, “which contributed efficiently and effectively to reducing infection and death rates and increasing the rate of recovery.” Meanwhile, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance temporarily closed 11 mosques in seven regions after some worshippers tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total closed within 36 days to 286 mosques, 273 of which have reopened after sterilization and ensuring they were safe. The coronavirus pandemic has affected over 120 million people globally and the death toll has reached around 2.65 million.
