New COVID-19 cases in Saudi Arabia rise; deaths stay in single digit

RIYADH — Single-day coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia breached the 500-mark for the third day in a row, with 531 new infections recorded on Sunday with 29 cases more than Saturday, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health. The ministry also announced seven more deaths over the past 24 hours from complications caused by COVID-19. This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 388,325 and the virus-related fatalities to 6,650. The ministry also reported 389 recoveries over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 376,947. The single-day infections in the Riyadh region topped the 200-mark for the fourth day in a row after many months, with 221 new cases recorded on Sunday. The capital region was followed by the Eastern region with 105 cases and the Makkah region with 99 new infections. The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with six of them reporting less than 10 infections. According to the ministry, there were 4,728 active cases and 638 of them were in critical condition.
