ALULA: Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will give a world-first performance at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hegra in AlUla, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday. Only 300 people will be allowed to attend the concert in person, but the performance is being live-streamed on Bocellis YouTube channel for millions of fans around the world, at 10 p.m. local time (8 p.m. UK / 9 p.m. Rome). The performance will see Bocelli, 62, sing against the backdrop of Nabataean tombs in the ancient city of Hegra, the first time the site has been used for a music concert on such a large scale. The Italian, who has sold more than 75 million records worldwide, will be joined by the Arabian Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as special guests Loren Allred, his son Matteo Bocelli, soprano Francesca Maionchi and Eugene Kohn on piano. While it will be Bocellis first time performing at Hegra, it marks his third concert at AlUla — having wowed crowds twice at previous editions of the Winter at Tantora festival. Bocellis concert comes a day after Saudi Arabias Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman unveiled “The Journey Through Time” development program for the region, which will transform it into a global destination for arts, heritage, culture and nature.
