Bahrain backs UAE’s bid for UN Security Council membership

MANAMA — Bahrain has renewed its full support for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) candidacy for membership in the UN Security Council for the period 2022-2023. “The UAE is the best representative of the Arab voice in the Security Council, and there is no doubt that it plays a vital role in preserving security and sustainability in the Arab region and the whole world”, said Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, Ambassador Jamal Faris Alrowaiei at the group meeting. He commended the UAE’s keen interest in supporting and contributing to humanitarian and development programs in many countries, with the aim of enhancing their stability and the progress of their peoples. During the meeting which was held on Thursday, the group listened to a briefing by the UAE Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Almarar who highlighted his country’s priorities in the Security Council and the main pillars of its campaign. The next elections for membership of the Security Council are scheduled to take place in June 2021.
