JEDDAH — The European Court on Wednesday ordered the lifting of sanctions against Aisha Gaddafi, daughter of the late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, on the grounds that she no longer poses a threat to international peace and security in the region. According to Agence France-Presse, the Luxembourg-based EU court confirmed in its ruling that the applicant has not been a resident of Libya for years and that her file does not show any involvement in Libyan political life. The decision to include or remove a person or company from the European sanctions list is taken unanimously by the member states of the European Council. "The council will carefully analyze the court"s decision to overturn the decisions to keep Gaddafi on the list of restrictive measures applied to Libya and will decide how to proceed," the European foreign affairs spokesman said. "The listing remains valid at least until the end of the board"s potential two-month appeal period," the spokesman explained. Aisha Gaddafi was placed on the EU sanctions list in February 2011 and her name was retained during reviews in 2017 and 2020. — Agencies
