GCC ambassadors to UN meet with Afghan candidate to UN General Assembly presidency

NEW YORK — Permanent Representatives of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to the United Nations in New York, held a meeting through videoconference, chaired by Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Jamal Fares Al-Rowaie, the Bahrain News Agency reported on Wednesday During the meeting, the permanent representatives were briefed by the former foreign minister Afghanistan and the candidate for the Presidency of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, in the context of his candidacy regarding his vision and priorities. Dr. Rassoul spoke about the central issues that he will focus on during his presidency, stressing the importance he attaches to the role of the GGC countries in promoting areas of cooperation and addressing common challenges. The permanent representatives also discussed the main issues and topics on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly, as well as the common priorities and concerns of the GCC countries within the framework of the United Nations. — SG
