Saudi Arabia hits 10-million mark for COVID-19 vaccine doses

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Health Ministry announced that more than 10 million doses of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine have been administered through 587 designated vaccine centers across the Kingdom. Saudi Arabia has vaccinated nearly 29 percent of its population at a rate of 147,552 daily doses. The ministry recorded 12 new COVID-19-related deaths on Wednesday, raising the national death toll to 7,018. The Kingdom reported 1,016 new cases in the previous 24 hours, raising the total number of cases to 422,316 people who have now contracted the virus. There are 9,691 active cases as 1,346 people are in critical condition, which is a decrease of 10 patients in the past 24 hours. According to the figures provided by the MoH, the highest number of cases were recorded in the Riyadh region with 373 cases, followed by Makkah (279) and the Eastern Province (125). Jouf and Najran were the only two regions to report numbers in the single digits, with seven and five, respectively. The MoH said 900 patients recovered from COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of recoveries in the Kingdom to 405,607. Saudi Arabia’s current recovery rate is holding steady at 96 percent. More than 72,000 PCR tests were administered in the past 24 hours.The ministry renewed its call on the public to adhere to the precautionary measures and guidelines, urging people not to gather outside mosques after prayers.
