Flights resumed on Monday between Tunisia and Libya after a seven-year halt caused by the unstable security situation. The National carrier, Tunisair, announced a scheduled flight on Monday noon from Carthage International Airport to Mitiga Airport in Tripoli, noting that the plane would return the same day at 4:10 pm (GMT). The company had postponed the flight resumption date, which was scheduled on April 27, due to the epidemiological situation and the decline in the number of passenger trips between both countries. Tunisair had earlier pointed to attempts to secure five flights per week to Libya, an average of three flights to Tripoli and two weekly flights to Benghazi, adding that the number of trips will most probably return to normal levels soon. Tunis has been recently seeking to boost its presence in the neighboring country, where a large Tunisian community resides. This comes following the settlement agreement signed between Libyan conflicting parties and the formation of the unity government, which is expected to start reconstructing the war-torn country.
