Crown Prince meets with US climate envoy John Kerry

RIYADH — Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, met here on Wednesday with US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry. During the meeting, they reviewed the international efforts exerted to confront the phenomenon of climate change, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The meeting also dealt with Saudi Arabia"s qualitative initiatives in confronting the phenomenon of climate change and reducing emissions and preserving the environment and its components, foremost of which are the Green Saudi and Green Middle East initiatives. The Crown Prince and the US envoy also reviewed the Kingdom"s efforts during its presidency of the Group 20 last year in pushing the adoption of the concepts of a circular carbon economy. The meeting was attended by Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid Bin Salman, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan and Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadly. On the American side, the Chargé d"Affairs of the US Embassy in the Kingdom attended, Martina Strong, head of climate ambition and implementation team, Jonathan Pershing, and head of global innovation and completion, Varun Sivaram, were also present in the meeting. Kerry is visiting countries around the world in preparations for a climate summit being hosted by President Joe Biden next week. The summit is a key milestone ahead of the UN Climate Conference, known as COP26, in Glasgow, Scotland, in November this year. He met on Tuesday with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir.
