BERLIN, June 17 (Reuters) - European Central Bank’s Jens Weidmann told Germany’s Handelsblatt daily that the ECB’s bond purchases via the PEPP crisis programme should end soon and he expected the conditions for a normalisation of monetary policy to come next year. “When the emergency for which the PEPP was created is over, it must be ended,” he was quoted in the paper as saying. He said a consolidated economic recovery and the end of measures needed to curb the pandemic were the prerequisites for a normalisation of monetary policy. He expects this to happen in 2022, the paper reported him as saying. (Reporting by Madeline Chambers; Editing by Christoph Steitz) Our Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.
