RIYADH: Gambian President Adama Barrow on Monday inaugurated his country’s embassy in the Diplomatic Quarter Saudi capital, Riyadh, during his official visit to the Kingdom. The embassy was opened in the presence of the Minister of State for African Affairs, Ahmed Abdul Aziz Kattan. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Gambian Ambassador Omar Gibril Sallah and other diplomats. “The facilities are the first diplomatic compounds built abroad by The Gambia government,” the Gambian presidency said in a statement. Barrow thanked King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman for their invitation “at such a critical time during the COVID-19 pandemic,” and for “allocating land to The Gambia since 1989, in accordance with the Kingdom’s directive that all diplomatic missions relocate to a safer and congenial environment,” the statement added. “I convey profound gratitude to him and the crown prince for the support they rendered through their competent officials for working closely with our Embassy Staff to accomplish this project successfully,” Barrow said The president later met Saudi Justice Minister Dr. Walid bin Mohammed Al-Samaani. During the meeting, they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of judiciary. Gambian President Adama Barrow and his accompanying delegation arrived in Riyadh on Sunday. Barrow also held talks with the Secretary-General of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth, Dr. Saleh Solaiman Al-Wohaibi, to discuss issues of common interest, including cultural and social conditions. The two sides also signed a joint cooperation agreement to support charitable initiatives in The Gambia.
