Kuwait reports record high COVID-19 cases for second consecutive day

KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait"s health ministry on Tuesday reported1,993 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, marking the highest daily count since the start of the pandemic and surpassing Monday"s record figure of 1,977. In a statement carried by the Kuwait News Agency, the country"s health ministry said that 20 more people succumbed to the deadly virus over the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 367,642 and virus-related fatalities to 2,049. Meanwhile, a total of 1,887 more patients recovered from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of recoveries in the country to 346,993. According to the ministry’s statement, there are currently 18,600 active cases in the country out of which 310 are receiving treatment in intensive care units. A total of 14,850 swab tests were conducted over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of COVID-19 examinations in the country to 3.06 million, the statement added. In the statement, the ministry urged citizens and expatriates alike that abiding by health precautions, mainly, following social distancing rules, is the only way to halt the spread of the virus. — SG
