RIYADH — New COVID-19 cases in Saudi Arabia stayed below the 1,200-mark on Saturday, the second straight day, with 1,177 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours. According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, 16 more people died due to complications caused by the virus. This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 500,083 and the virus-related fatalities to 7,963. The ministry also said that a total of 1,516 people recovered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 481,225. The Riyadh region reported the highest number of new cases with 305, followed by the Makkah region with 297, the Eastern region with 178, and the Asir region with 96 infections. The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just one of them reporting less than 10 infections. According to the ministry, there were 10,895 active cases and 1,395 of them were in critical condition.
