A serving police officer and a three-year-old child have been found dead at a house in Worcestershire. West Mercia police said officers had attended an address in Cairndhu Drive in Kidderminster following concerns for the welfare of a man and a young child. A 39-year-old man and the child were found dead on arrival, the force said. It also confirmed that the man was a serving officer with West Mercia police. The assistant chief constable Rachel Jones said in a statement: “We have launched an investigation into the deaths, which are currently being treated as unexplained. It is with great sadness that we share this news today. “Whilst the circumstances surrounding the deaths are not fully known, this is clearly a tragic incident. Our deepest condolences are with the officer’s family, friends and colleagues.” The chair of West Mercia Police Federation, Sarah Cooper, said her colleagues had been “deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic and heartbreaking news. We extend our deepest sympathies to all those impacted by this devastating incident and our thoughts are very much with family, friends and colleagues. “The ripples from this incident will be far-reaching and I know that officers and staff across West Mercia police will be impacted hugely by this tragedy. As a federation, we will be on hand to support our members through this in any way we can.” There was a small police presence on Cairndhu Drive, where a marked car was parked outside a semi-detached property. A neighbour told the Birmingham Mail: “That is such a tragic situation. How awful. I didn’t know them but they moved in quite recently, certainly in the last year.” Another neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “I didn’t really know the occupants, they kept themselves to themselves. They’ve lived there less than a year, it’s a family. The news is just awful.” Fran Oborski, a district and county councillor for the area, said residents were horrified by the news. “It’s just an awful tragedy. Everybody is just stunned and horrified and deeply saddened for the family,” she said. West Midlands ambulance service said it had been called to reports of a medical emergency at the property at 9.21am on Friday, when the two bodies were discovered. “Sadly, it quickly became apparent that neither patient could be saved and they were confirmed dead at the scene,” it said.
