The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is studying the prospect of obligating public transport companies to allow persons with disabilities and limited mobility to benefit from any exemptions or discounts determined by the authority on ticket fares. This is in line with the policy of determining charges for using means of public transport, without paying any additional fare in exchange for the service. According to the draft regulation of the rights and obligations of users of transport activities, seen by Okaz/Saudi Gazette, the carrier must prepare the means of transportation operated by it with the necessary tools and equipment to serve persons with disabilities or those with limited mobility in a safe and secure way, and the carrier should not be entitled to refuse in the provision of the service. There are provisions in the draft regulation to allow passengers to take animals on board the means of transport and keeping them in the places designated for it, if any, provided that they do not cause inconvenience to others or impede movement and operational safety. It allows visually impaired passengers to take service animals permitted on board the means of transport. Passengers will also be allowed to take their pets, smaller in size, provided they are placed in cages designated for transportation. The provisions in the regulation also included preventing passengers from crossing the barriers that have set up in public transport stations and facilities, or bypassing the queue designated for waiting for passengers at the facility. The rules prevent passengers from entering the vehicle or station wearing clothes that are inappropriate or dirty or emitting foul odors, or throwing garbage and spitting inside the means of transport or stations and other facilities, or taking photographs or video clips of other people or passengers without their permission.
