(Adds quote, details) MEXICO CITY, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Mexico’s 2022 budget will not increase taxes as the government instead focuses on combating tax evasion, the country’s new finance minister Rogelio Ramirez de la O said on Friday. Speaking at a Senate hearing, Ramirez de la O said the budget would not include tax rate hikes, and would be balanced, responsible and realistic. “Instead of increasing the tax burden, this strategy will focus on those who deliberately avoid paying taxes,” he said. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in early June picked Ramirez de la O, a close ally, to lead the finance ministry to help realize his vision of a fairer economy during the final half of his term. Outgoing finance minister Arturo Herrera has been nominated to take over from Bank of Mexico chief Alejandro Diaz de Leon, whose term concludes at the end of 2021.
