Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Nayef al-Hajraf stressed that the Gulf is seeking a strategic partnership with Iraq. Relations between the GCC members and Iraq are founded on their belief in building such a partnership in all fields based on their shared religious values, history, language and geography, he added during the Baghdad Cooperation and Partnership conference. They are also driven by common goals to bolster development and civil peace, he added. Moreover, he said that terrorism and extremism are the phenomena that are now preoccupying the world. Their danger demands continued cooperation and the exchange of views through the strategic partnership between the GCC and Iraq. It also demands bolstering regional and international coordination and cooperation to confront cross-border extremist terrorist organizations, urged Hajraf. Such positions stem from the joint stance of rejecting all forms of terrorism, he added. Tolerance and coexistence are among the most important principles on which relations between nations and peoples are built, he stressed.
