The Israeli occupation forces stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque, on Friday, as a number of Palestinians organized a peaceful march after Friday"s prayers in solidarity with prisoners who are being repressed by the prison administration. The Palestinian factions had called for popular marches in support of the prisoners in the occupation prisons, while the popular resistance announced that its weekly marches against settlements would be launched Friday, said Palestine news agency (WAFA). On the other hand, the Israeli prisons administration imposed collective punishments on the Palestinian prisoners after six of them managed to escape last Monday. The occupation forces are still searching for the six detainees, as they have reinforced their military presence in the West Bank, especially in Jenin. Tensions have been high in Jerusalem as Palestinians have taken to protesting in support of Palestinians imprisoned by Israel. On Wednesday fires broke out at several prison facilities in Israel as the government searched for six Palestinian escapees who have been on the run since they tunneled out earlier in the week. The fires broke out amid efforts to try to move inmates as a precautionary measure by prison authorities. Meanwhile, a Palestinian suspected attacker has died shortly after being wounded by Israeli police gunfire in Jerusalem where he had reportedly tried to stab officers Friday, medical sources said. A spokesperson for Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem confirmed the death. Palestinian media reports identified the dead man as Hazem Joulani, 50, a doctor living in Jerusalem. Earlier, Israeli police said an officer was lightly injured by a firearm in an attempt to thwart a suspected stabbing attack in Jerusalem’s Old City. They did not immediately give any details as to how the officer was injured, but it said the attacker was arrested. On May 7, a total of 16 Palestinians were wounded in Jerusalem by Israeli occupation forces after storming Al-Aqsa Mosque after Maghrib prayer. The Palestinian Red Crescent said that 14 were wounded when Israeli soldiers raided the Mosque courtyard, while the other two were wounded in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood where clashes took place. — Agencies
