Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned and denounced Tuesday"s failed coup attempt in Sudan, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed in a statement the Kingdom’s full support for Sudan regarding all steps taken that would maintain the country"s security and stability. On Tuesday, Sudanese authorities reported a failed coup attempt by a group of soldiers. Official spokesman of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereign Council Mohammad Al-Faki Suleiman said on a Facebook account that the Sudanese people should "rise up to defend the country and protect the democratic transition." Sudan said "forces of darkness" linked to the ousted regime were behind the failed coup attempt. "Remnants from the previous regime" were "intent on aborting the civilian democratic transition", Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok said in a message. The current administration -- involving the military, civilian representatives and protest groups -- was then established as part of a power-sharing agreement. As many as 21 officers and a number of soldiers have been detained in connection with the failed putsch, and the search for the rest of the culprits is continuing, Reuters news agency quoted the Sudanese military as saying.
