Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of Board of Directors of Public Transport Authority Eng. Saleh Bin Nasser Bin Ali Al-Jasser underscored the active role of the Kingdom and its commitment to addressing climate change and building a greener future. Eng. Al-Jasser made this statement in Zero-and Low-Emission Innovation Forum that was held virtually from Sept. 27 to 29, 2021, in the presence of a number of interested and specialists in the environmental issue and preservation of marine natural resources. Speaking at the forum, Al-Jasser, pointed to several initiatives recently launched by the Kingdom, such as Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) and Middle East Green Initiative (MEGI). He explained that the SGI would reduce carbon emissions by more than 4% of global contributions, through an ambitious renewable energy program that will generate 50% of the Kingdom"s energy from renewable energy sources by 2030. He added, the Kingdom"s keenness and interest were demonstrated through its presidency of G20 Summit last year, and its adoption of the concept of a circular carbon economy as well as the formation of the first environmental task force, in addition to launching two global initiatives to reduce land degradation and protect coral reefs. He also affirmed the importance of cooperation as countries and organizations, taking all measures to reduce emissions and providing full support to the efforts of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to implement its related strategies and endeavors thereof. The Minister of Transport and Logistics Services further said, "I was pleased today to sign 3 initiatives to support the efforts of IMO, and this confirms our commitment to enhance sustainability and protect the marine environment." — SPA
