DUBAI: French-Tunisian rising star Sonia Ammar has given “Scream” fans a glimpse of her latest role ahead of the film’s first trailer. The model, singer and actress took to Instagram this week to share a photo of Liv, her character in the famed horror franchise’s screen return next year. “Your first look at my character Liv in the new #ScreamMovie – In theaters Jan. 14, 2022. Trailer tomorrow,” the 22-year-old captioned a series of images from the new film. While not much is known about Liv, the film — directed by filmmaking duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett — revolves around a new killer who dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting teenagers to resurrect secrets from Woodsboro’s past. New cast member Melissa Barrera told fans on Twitter that they “ain’t ready” for the reboot and what it has to offer. “Saw the final cut of #ScreamMovie Y’all ain’t ready,” she wrote on Twitter. The first poster for the new film featuring a knife-wielding Ghostface was also teased this week. The first “Scream” film was released in 1996, well before Ammar was born. A smash hit on its debut, the Wes Craven-directed movie helped to revive the horror genre, becoming the highest-grossing slasher film of all-time. The forthcoming film marks Paris-born Ammar’s first high-profile Hollywood gig as an actress. She joins returning cast members David Arquette, Courteney Cox and Neve Campbell, who are all reprising their iconic roles as Dewey Riley, Gale Weathers and Sidney Prescott. However, it is not the model’s first foray into the film industry. Ammar, daughter of Tunisian film director Tarek Ben Ammar and actress Beata, previously starred in Guillaume Canet’s French-language film “Jappeloup” as well as the stage musical “1789: Les Amants de la Bastille.” She has also appeared in several music videos, including “Drivin’ Thru the Night” by DJ Petit Biscuit, as well as clips for her own singles, such as “Joyride” from her debut EP. In addition to music, Ammar has worked for major brands, such as Dolce & Gabbana, Miu Miu, Carolina Herrera and Chanel, along with prestigious fashion houses.
