It will reduce emissions by 70 percent by 2040 compared to 2019 levels RIYADH: French supermarket giant Carrefour plans to become carbon neutral by 2040, Bloomberg reported. The retailer will speed up initiatives to cut greenhouse gas emissions, it said in a statement on Sunday. It will reduce emissions by 70 percent by 2040 compared to 2019 levels, this is 15 percentage points greater than its previous target. Carrefour also said it will only use renewable electricity by 2030 and cut power consumption by 27.5 percent by this date, leading to €100 million ($116 million) of energy savings a year. The retailer also plans to cut emissions by progressively replacing most fluorinated refrigerants with new units that use carbon dioxide.
