Egypt launches medical tourism program for foreign patients

CAIRO: A cooperation protocol has been signed by the General Authority for Health Care with a medical tourism company to promote the treatment of foreign patients in Egypt, Assistant Minister of Health and Population Ahmed El-Sobky has announced. El-Sobky, who is the chairman of the authority’s Board of Directors, explained that the protocol aims to bring foreign patients for treatment in the hospitals of the Health Care Authority. The agreement will implement the latest medical tourism programs according to international standards using with artificial intelligence systems, as part of the authority’s new campaign entitled “We take care of you in Egypt.” He said the authority is looking to engourage medical tourism in accordance with the directions of Egypt’s leaders. The implementation of a comprehensive health insurance has put Egypt on the global health map thanks to the support of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. El-Sobky said: “The ‘We take care of you in Egypt’ program aims to achieve $24 million in medical tourism services in the first year.” He noted that the system will provide advanced medical and therapeutic services and surgeries. “We have provided four offices to receive arrivals for medical tourism at Cairo, Luxor, South Sinai and Aswan airports, in cooperation with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, to provide them with services of the highest quality,” he said. The authority will provide medical services in cooperation with a number of senior foreign experts. The protocol includes the commitment to hold international conferences for medical tourism for leading authorities in the field to share their experience and research and discuss ways to cooperate in developing Egypt’s experience, “to advance the medical tourism project at the General Authority for Health Care and achieve its vision of putting Egypt on the global medical tourism map,” he said.
