The Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit, has denounced the attempt to target Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, expressing his confidence in the ability of the security services to protect the Iraqi state institutions and to confront any attempt aimed at destabilizing its security and stability. Abul Gheit said in a statement Sunday: “The turbulent situation in Iraq during the recent period, which escalated with this shameful attempt to assassinate Al-Kadhimi confirms once again the need for the Iraqi state to deal decisively with uncontrolled weapons and outlaw groups.” The Secretary-General affirmed the League"s continued support for Iraq and its people, and its standing with it to cross this stage in peace and security, wishing Iraq and its people all the best security and stability. Also the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Dr. Nayef Al Hajraf condemned Sunday the "wrongful" assassination attempt targeting Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi. Al Hajraf affirmed in a press release absolute opposition to such aggressions threatening the stability and security of Iraq, which is part of the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The GCC chief also expressed solidarity with Iraq and its people to safeguard the country"s security, stability and territorial integrity. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed, Sunday, strongly worded condemnation of the assassination attempt on life of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, affirming that it is closely following latest updates on the situation. The OIC Secretary-General Dr. Yousef Alothaimeen said in a press statement that the assassination attempt is a "terrorist act targeting Iraq"s unity, security and stability". The SG stressed the necessity of protecting Iraq"s security, stability and territorial integrity, urging all political parties to resort to peaceful dialogue in order to overcome obstacles. — SG
