DUBAI: Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival announced the lineup of films in its International Spectacular section on Monday. The selection is a curated collection of this year’s productions by award-winning international filmmakers. All eight films in this section will be Arab premieres, showcasing global cinema to the region. The inaugural event will take place from Dec. 6-15 in Jeddah. Artistic director of the festival Edouard Waintrop said in a released statement: “Whilst the Red Sea Film International Festival is undoubtedly about showcasing Arab cinema to the world, it is as much about welcoming international cinema and international filmmakers to the Arab world. “The stories told in these films, over half of which are from female filmmakers, portray a vibrant and diverse array of views, and we are thrilled to be able to showcase them all at the Festival,” added Waintrop. The films that will be presented include “Ennio” by award-winning writer, director, and actor Giuseppe Tornatore, “Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon” by acclaimed filmmaker Ana Lily Amirpour, “Sisters” by French-Algerian director Yamina Benguigui, “The Lost Daughter” by US actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, “Belfast” by Academy Award nominee Kenneth Branagh, “The Good Boss” by Spanish filmmaker Fernando León de Aranoa, “You Resemble Me” by Egyptian-American filmmaker and award-winning journalist Dina Amer and “The Colour Room” by Australian screenwriter Claire McCarthy.
