RIYADH: Jeddah Islamic Port customs officials have thwarted an attempt to smuggle 888,000 Captagon pills into the Kingdom, which were found hidden in a consignment of paste used for construction. According to a report from the Saudi Press Agency on Friday, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority said the consignment was discovered using various security procedures that have successfully prevented other smuggling attempts in the past. The authority added that it is continuing to tighten customs controls at entry points across the country. Recently, Saudi Arabia’s border officers seized 352 kg of hashish and 54,368 kg of qat in Jazan, Najran and Asir. Border Guards spokesman Lt. Col. Misfer Al-Quraini said officers arrested 63 people including 30 Saudis and 33 foreigners, among them 23 Yemenis and 10 Ethiopians. The Saudi government has offered a financial reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of drug smugglers. Members of the public can make contact dialing 1910 or 00966114208417.
