The Ministry of Culture announced on Wednesday the launch of the second edition of the National Cultural Awards, which is an initiative to honor the pioneers in various cultural sectors, and support them both financially and morally for their outstanding achievements. The Ministry of Culture has invited nominations for the awards, and the nominations will be received over a period of three months from December 22 to March 22, 2022 via the following link: culturalawards.moc.gov.sa. The initiative includes 14 cultural awards: the Cultural Personality of the Year Award, Youth Cultural Award, Cultural Institutions Award, Film Award, Fashion Award, Music Award, National Heritage Award, Literature Award, Theater and Performing Arts Award, Visual Arts Award, Architecture and Design Award, Culinary Arts Award, Publishing Award, and Translation Award. However, this time the ministry excluded the awards -“Cultural Personality of the Year” and “Culture for Youth” - from the nomination process, as they will be awarded according to the selection process by an ad hoc committee. One the other hand, the “Cultural Institutions” award nomination process will include four tracks. The first would be the nomination of the institution or company for itself, or by other institutions, or by specialized Ministry of Culture committees, or by the public. As for the remaining eleven prizes, nominations will have three tracks either by the participants for themselves, or by intellectuals and creators nominating any cultural achievements they deem worthy of appreciation, or by the ministry’s specialized committees. The winners of the first edition were honored in April this year in a ceremony held at the Palace of Culture in the Diplomatic Quarter in Riyadh. The award for “Cultural Personality of the Year” went to the writer Muhammad Al-Aboudi, while the “Youth Culture Award” was bagged by the film director Shahad Amin. It is worth mentioning that the National Cultural Awards initiative comes within the Quality of Life program, one of the Saudi Vision 2030 realization programs.
