Saudi Tariq Hamdi continues victory streak, winning 2021 Asian Karate Championships' gold medal

Saudi athlete Tarek Hamdi won the gold medal on Wednesday in the men"s +84kg category at the 17th edition of the 2021 Asian Karate Championships. Hamdi won the gold medal after defeating his Iranian opponent 4/0 during his participation in the 19th edition of the Cadet and the 17th- U21 edition of the Senior Asian Karate Championship which was held at the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan, as it took place on December 19 to 22, 2021. Hamdi’s victory came after the Saudi youth team player Sultan Al-Qahtani achieved a resounding success by obtaining the gold medal in the fighting competitions under 55 kg on December 19. The Saudi Karate team concluded the 2021 Asian Karate Championships with a total of 19 medals. Where Yasser Al-Barqi won the silver medal in the under-55kg category fight, and Fahad Al-Khathami added another silver medal in the under-67kg category fight, as Sultan Al-Zahrani won the team’s third silver medal in the under-75kg fight category. While the rest of the team completed the success series by winning the bronze medal in the teams fight. Minister of Sports and President of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal congratulated Tarek Hamdi and Sultan Al-Qahtani for winning the gold medals, and the Saudi Karate team for their success in obtaining the silver and bronze medals. As he said that "Our champions has proved their excellence and the ability of making achievements" Tariq Hamdi"s success comes as a continuation of his winning streak in 2021, after his victory in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics when was on his way to gift Saudi Arabia the first Olympic gold medal in its history, but a technical error in the final of the Men’s Karate Kumite +75kg at Tokyo 2020 left him with the silver medal.
