Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the preliminary investigations into the accident involving Dakar Rally French support team did not indicate any suspicious criminal activity. “The competent authority in the Kingdom is working to coordinate and inform specialists from the French side of the results of the investigation including photos, information, and evidence available to the competent authorities in the Kingdom about the incident,” Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday. The ministry clarified that the concerned authorities, in cooperation with the organizers, are keen to apply all internationally adopted security and safety standards to maintain the security and safety of the participants in the Dakar Rally. Last week, the Makkah region police spokesman said that the preliminary investigations into the accident involving Dakar Rally French support team revealed that no crime was suspected in the incident. One Frenchman was taken to hospital after sustaining injuries while four of his compatriots in the vehicle escaped unhurt in the accident that occurred on Thursday, Dec. 30. The vehicle of the support team belongs to one of the drivers participating in the 2022 Dakar Rally was involved in the accident. The rally kicked off from Jeddah on Saturday. The spokesman said that the security authorities in the region have launched an investigation into the accident.
