CAIRO: Veteran Egyptian journalist and TV host Wael El-Ebrashy died on Sunday after suffering for months from COVID-19 complications – he was 58-years-old. El-Ebrashy was a well-known media personality in Egypt and the Arab world who hosted several successful TV shows on state-run and private channels that were broadcasted for years, including “Al-Haqeqa” (The Truth) and the “10 PM” program. At the beginning of his career, El-Ebrashy worked at Rosa El Youssef Foundation, then at the newspaper Sawt El Umma, where for some of his time he served as editor-in-chief. He contracted the coronavirus in late 2020 and was admitted to the intensive care unit of a quarantine hospital in Giza, according to state-run Al-Ahram Newspaper. He left the hospital last March after showing signs of improvement, however, he continued to receive medical treatment at home after developing pulmonary fibrosis as a complication of the coronavirus.
