Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called on the Sudanese parties to hold dialogue to achieve political consensus on a roadmap that leads to elections. The Egyptian President was addressing representatives of Arab and foreign media, on the sidelines of the World Youth Forum held in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh. He stressed that freedom of expression was a universal right, asserting that he was “ready to hear and accept any real criticism.” Developments in Egypt over the past seven years are the outcome of stability and security, he underlined. In response to a question about Egypt’s position on developments in Sudan, Sisi said that Cairo “adopts a policy of non-interference in internal affairs,” noting that the situation in the African country “requires political consensus among all stakeholders there.” Sudan’s “political crisis must be resolved by consensus. We believe that dialogue is the best way out of the crisis, and the same applies to Libya,” he remarked. The Egyptian president urged the Sudanese parties to reach consensus through all-party talks, adding: “We support all brothers in Sudan to hold a dialogue that would lead to a roadmap, which brings about elections.” Highly valuing Ethiopia’s development growth, Sisi said: “This should not be at the expense of Egypt’s water security. We need to reach a legal agreement that takes into account our concerns and opens the door for development.” In response to a question about Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu offering to strike a maritime agreement with Egypt instead of its initial deal with Greece, the president replied: “In the maritime border demarcation agreement with Greece, we are committed to international rules and norms... I will not comment further.” Regarding human rights in Egypt, Sisi said: “I call on a committee of impartial youth to verify allegations of arrests, lists of enforced disappearances, and human rights violations.” He affirmed willingness to rectify any wrong move.
