Saudi Arabia, Oman to enhance cooperation in transport, logistics services

Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser and the President of the Environment Authority of Oman Dr. Abdullah Al-Omari discussed means to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the fields of transport and logistics services during a meeting Tuesday. Highlighting the deep-rooted ties between the two countries that have recently resulted in holding several meetings and signing various agreements that contributed to several successes, Eng. Al-Jasser cited the recent opening of the land road connecting Saudi Arabia with Oman, considered an architectural wonder implemented by the ministry due to the difficult topography that the road passes through. He also underlined the interest of the leadership of Saudi Arabia to address environment-related issues, citing pre-emptive steps the Kingdom has made including several leading decisions to maintain the environment, such as joining several international initiatives and launching several initiatives that aim at preserving the environments, such as the Saudi Green Initiative. The minister pointed out that the transport and logistics services system enjoys an ambitious national strategy stemmed from the Saudi Vision 2030. In this regard, he stressed that the strategy includes several ambitious targets, such reducing carbon emission resulting from the transport sector to 25% through adopting modern transport technologies, such as electric and self-driving cars, and increasing the percentage of public transport to 15%, which would contribute to maintaining the environment. Among the recent steps taken within the transport and logistics services system, the minister mentioned several successes related to preserving the environment through launching a project to track truck, reduce the operational age of trucks and modernize the aviation fleet. — SPA
