Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman stated that there is no country in the world, outside the countries of Annex I under the Paris Agreement, that has undertaken a pledge to target zero neutrality by 2060 like the Kingdom"s without asking for funding or assistance. The minister noted that the Kingdom’s announcement of targeting zero neutrality by 2060 is conditional on developing technologies to manage and reduce emissions. He also shed light on the capabilities and efficiency of the young Saudi women and men, saying, "The real story of the Kingdom is the ambitious, determined young generation full of hope, and with this generation, I do not think that the word (impossible) will be in our dictionary." Prince Abdulaziz commended the keenness of the Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, chairman of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs (CEDA), and his relentless pursuit to reduce emissions and his adoption of the Saudi Green Initiative, which will hold an annual forum for this purpose. A special budget and a board of trustees have been set up for the initiative. The energy minister’s statements were delivered at the “LEAP22” session titled “Technology for the Energy Transition” which was moderated by Lord Stephen Carter, former British Minister of Communications and CEO of the “Informa PLC” group. Prince Abdulaziz added, “Without energy security, there will be no smooth transition in this sector globally, which is essential to achieving the other two components of any real transition: economic growth and prosperity, and addressing climate challenges.” He further pointed out that the energy transition requires a lot of financing, investment, and programs, noting that the Kingdom is working with all countries in all aspects saying, "because we do not want to be just receivers, but also contribute with the world to finding solutions and sharing experiences."
