The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union has strongly condemned all attempts aimed at harming the territories, peoples and sovereignty of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates by the Houthi militia, saying these actions are a direct threat to Arab and international peace and security. The Cairo Statement of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union affirmed full support for the two countries’ right to defend their territorial integrity, sovereignty, citizens and security. Speaker of the Shoura Council Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammad bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh led the Saudi delegation to the 32nd conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union being held in Cairo. The conference called on Arab parliaments and councils to cooperate in implementing Security Council Resolution No. 2216 of 2015 banning the supply of arms to the Houthi militia, and Resolution No. 8725 of 2022, issued by the Council of the Arab League, which calls on all countries to classify the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization. The conference also condemned the Houthi militia’s continued escalation and attempts to impose its control by force on the Yemeni regions ignoring the calls of the Security Council and civil society. It said no progress can be made in the Yemeni crisis without stopping the hostilities carried out by the Houthi militia and putting an end to its repeated violations against Yemenis. The conference stressed the importance of freeing the Middle East from weapons of mass destruction and nuclear weapons because of their effective impact on reducing the intensity of conflicts in the region and the world and on achieving international peace and security. It stressed the importance of supporting the advanced sciences in nuclear energy for exclusively peaceful purposes. The conference renewed the firm stand of solidarity with Palestine, and its permanent and continuous support for the central and pivotal cause of the Arabs, until the Palestinian people establish their independent state, on the borders of June 4, 1967, with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital, in accordance with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. The conference stressed the importance of resolving all Arab disputes under the Arab umbrella and preventing any regional interference in this regard in order to ensure the safety and security of Arab countries and achieve their stability and growth. — SPA
