— The Federation of Saudi Chambers (FSC) has clarified that it had not issued any circulars related to the opening of restaurants during daytime in the holy fasting month of Ramadan. In a statement on its Twitter account on Wednesday, the federation stated that it publishes circulars and news bulletins on its website and official social media accounts to prevent any rumors and unfounded reports from being circulated. The federation, which groups 28 chambers of commerce and industry in the Kingdom, dismissed the circular as fabricated. The clarification came in the wake of the circulation of a letter attributed to the federation in various outlets of media and social networking sites stating that it was decided to allow local and international restaurants in Saudi Arabia to operate and serve food during daytime in Ramadan. There are instructions in the letter asking to install curtains or cover the facades of eateries as a condition for serving food during the day hours in respect of the sentiments of the fasting public. It was also stated in the purported circular that the directive would come into force on the first day of the month of Ramadan and without the need for any prior permission from the competent authorities. It said the procedure was in line with the usual practices that are in force in this regard in various countries of the world.
