Dr. Abdulmajeed bin Abdullah Al-Banyan has been president of Naif Arab University for Security Sciences since March 2018. The university, along with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, recently concluded a three-day scientific forum on security media during crises, and disaster management, held in the Moroccan capital, Rabat. The conference also focused on the lessons learned from the coronavirus pandemic. Prior to joining the university, the academic body of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, Al-Banyan had held several positions including as an associate professor, dean of the preparatory year, and head of the strategic transformation program for King Saud University. He was also vice president for development and quality at Prince Sultan University and worked as a full-time adviser at the Ministry of Education. In addition, he was a visiting professor at the University of Oxford, in the UK. Al-Banyan, who chairs the board of directors of the Arab Society for Forensic Sciences and Forensic Medicine, is also a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Applied Hematology, and a member of the advisory board for the Journal of Security Research. In 2001, he gained a bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory sciences from King Saud University, then a master’s degree in blood transfusion and organ transplant, and a Ph.D. in blood transfusion in clinical medicine, in 2004 and 2009, respectively, both from the University of Bristol, in the UK. He also holds a higher education degree from King’s College London. Al-Banyan has received several industry accolades, including the Margaret Kenwright Award from the British Blood Transfusion Society, the Harold Johnson Award from the International Society of Blood Transfusion, and the June 27 Knight Medal from the Republic of Djibouti.
