The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP), in cooperation with its partners in the Digital Government Authority and Expenditure and Projects Efficiency Authority, held the Sixth Intellectual Property Respect Council meeting, which aims to enhance transparency between the private sector and the government sector, and coordinate efforts to raise the compliance level to the IP laws and regulations. The Council was opened by introducing the initiative of the IP Respect Council, and express the importance of intellectual property protection as an essential component of national economic policies. During the meeting, both parties agreed to build a comprehensive plan for raising awareness of intellectual property in the software and information technology sector, in cooperation between SAIP and representatives of the private, and to establish a work team from SAIP and relevant entities to provide the necessary support to face the obstacles and challenges facing the sector. The participants also agreed to cooperate with the IP Academy to establish a curriculum for IP respect officers who will help measuring the compliance within their entities and to avoid intellectual property violations. It is noteworthy that the council held a number of meetings during the last period, addressing a number of topics related to several sectors, such as the pharmaceutical meeting, the publishing sector meeting, satellite broadcasting and production sector meeting, the Trademark sector meeting and the sport clubs meeting. These meetings were within the framework of the Kingdom’s efforts to protect intellectual property rights in these sectors, and reviewing ways of cooperation and discussing challenges and proposed solutions, and review ways of cooperation and discuss challenges and proposed solutions. — SPA
